Steve is Chairman of Johnson Lyman Wealth Advisors. He began his career as a financial planner in 1984 teaching Personal Financial Management and Investments courses for the University of Maryland in the European Division. He currently teaches candidates for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ credential the Survey of Personal Financial Planning and Investments in Personal Financial Planning courses for the University of California Santa Cruz Extension in Silicon Valley.
He is active in the development of standards for personal financial planning, serving as a technical expert and a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 222. Previously, Steve served on the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) national Board of Directors and as treasurer, president and chair of the NAPFA West Region Board of Directors. For the Financial Planning Association (FPA), he has served on the national Board of Directors, on numerous FPA national task forces and committees, and as president and chair of the FPA of Silicon Valley Board of Directors.
Locally, Steve chairs the Half Moon Bay Citizens' Measure E (Parcel Tax) Oversight Committee for the Cabrillo Unified School District, and manages the endowment fund for the Cabrillo Education Foundation. He previously served on the Board of Directors and as treasurer of Ocean Colony Association.
Steve graduated from Colgate University with a degree in economics and earned his MBA from the University of West Florida. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1993. A native Californian, Steve has resided in Half Moon Bay since 1994 with his wife of 41 years, Irene.
Rob is President of the firm, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, and principal architect of the firm’s highly personalized and comprehensive Wealth Management service. Rob serves as the Lead Advisor for many of the firm’s clients, including corporate executives, business owners, entrepreneurs, successful professionals, and individuals and families.
Rob also specializes in helping business owners plan for the single, most critically important financial event in their lives – the successful transition out of their business. As part of this process, he supports owners in building value in the specific areas of their business that close the gap between where they are today and where they want to be when they successfully leave their business. Rob collaborates with owners and their other key advisors to create a plan and coordinates the work to be completed, enabling both the owner and the business to meet their long-term objectives.
Rob delights in making a difference in his clients’ lives. His passion and expertise is in partnering with clients, empowering them to clarify goals, discern next steps, and get into action. Rob enjoys collaborative work where a fresh perspective creates new possibilities and inspiration for a client. Rob has experience in the increasingly important field of behavioral investment counseling and serves as both a coach and advocate for his clients.
Rob is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a master's degree in engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Professionally, he is active in the Silicon Valley chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), where he serves on the program committee and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), where he has been designated as a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor. Rob has trained other fee-only financial planners at several NAPFA conferences, including the 2005 West Region and South Region events. One of Rob's financial planning case studies has been used for the capstone course in financial planning at the University of Georgia. As a member of the National Association of Investor's Corp. (NAIC), Rob developed investor education curriculum and has taught investment classes for the San Francisco chapter. Rob also serves as a mentor for the Silicon Valley Planned Giving Council's Incubator Program, helping local non-profits develop their planned giving strategies.
Rob enjoys skiing, boarding, tennis, and backpacking with his wife, Catherine, and two college-graduated children. Recently, his entire family successfully climbed Mt. Whitney via the Mountaineer’s Route. He is an active member of the Palo Alto Rotary Club (serving on Board of Trustees for the Palo Alto Rotary Endowment and on the club’s program committee), and is a past President of the Woodside High School Foundation. Rob and Catherine have also served as foster parents, and have successfully supported two foster teens in graduating from high school and moving on to college.
Pat serves as Lead Advisor and has been with the firm since 1999. He started in the business in 1990 as financial planner for American Express. From there, he worked briefly at Dean Witter and later moved to Houston to serve as a bank officer overseeing brokerage and annuity activities at five Charter Bank & Trust locations. Pat has been a fee-only CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner since 1999 and is a National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) Registered Financial Advisor. Pat is also a member of the Silicon Valley Financial Planning Association (FPA), the National Association of Enrolled Agents, and the San Francisco Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) chapter.
An Air Force Academy graduate, Pat retired from the Air Force reserves but continues to serve as an Liaison Officer for college ROTC and Academy admissions. A native Californian, Pat has at various times called Hawaii, Texas, and Spain his home. He, his wife, Rona, and children often travel to the Philippines to visit their extended families. An avid tennis player and weekend warrior, Pat has the four majors on his bucket list as well as running a respectful time in the half marathon.
Jennifer works with the firm's lead advisors to develop and implement financial planning strategies for our clients. She is committed to empowering others to create and realize their dreams and has a special interest in helping women (especially those recently widowed or divorced, and single moms).
She has been a fee-only CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner since January 2009. She is active in the Silicon Valley chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), where she serves on the pro-bono committee, and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), where she has been designated as a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor.
Prior to joining Johnson Lyman, Jennifer was a consultant and educator in the area of employee stock and retirement plans for many San Francisco Bay Area companies and their employees.
In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, nature walks, reading, learning about health and nutrition, and spending time with her young daughter.
Linda brings with her an extensive background in small business management. Linda began her career by establishing and operating a bookkeeping service for 15 years. Linda later owned and operated a chain of retail auto parts stores for 17 years.
She has been volunteering for over 21 years as the Financial Coordinator for RotaCare Bay Area Free Clinics-San Jose, a non-profit corporation formed for the purpose of providing free medical care to people who have the most need and the least access to medical services. In addition to establishing and overseeing budgets, she has served as site administrator and translator. She presently is a member of the RotaCare Advisory Council which insures adherence to the clinical requirements and policies and procedures.
Linda is responsible for all significant accounting and recordkeeping functions, including general company and investment management bookkeeping, Human Resources Manager functions, and management of client and company events.
She and her husband, Mariano, a concert flamenco guitarist, teacher, and composer, have been married for 36 years and have two children and four grandchildren. In her spare time, Linda enjoys hiking, biking, concerts, gardening, playing guitar and spending time with her grandchildren.
Jennifer is the newest member to the Johnson Lyman team and brings a wide set of customer and team support skills to our staff. Jennifer has held a broad range of positions before this, including being an Office Manager for a local non-profit, a Housing Programs Technician for the City of Sunnyvale, and an Executive Assistant at the New York Stock Exchange.
Jennifer graduated from California State University Hayward with a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Psychology.
She is the main support in handling requests from clients and maintaining our Client Relationship Management database.
In her spare time, she enjoys taking road trips, ice skating, kayaking, painting, photography and engaging in dog friendly activities.
Betsy has been with Johnson Lyman since 1992. She is responsible for reconciling and maintaining account information related to clients’ trades and electronic records storage.
She is a graduate of Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y. where she received her RN and BS degrees. In addition to nursing, while raising her four children, she obtained a Lifetime Adult Education Credential and was the Director of the Los Gatos Parent Nursery School.
Betsy is a member of P.E.O. which is an international organization that raises money for college scholarships for women. As part of her activities with P.E.O., Betsy volunteers with the organization’s Nearly New Thrift Shop in Sunnyvale.
She is an active member of her church and enjoys family activities, traveling, gardening, and the San Jose Symphony.
Gary Rousselo, Jr.
As a Support Advisor at Johnson Lyman Wealth Advisors, Inc., Gary assists the Lead and Service Advisors with all aspects of client service. Gary also provides general administrative support to the team and assists the Business Manager with office management duties.
Gary is a “Candidate for CFP® Certification” having passed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ exam in July 2011 and is currently completing the work experience requirement. He is a member of the San Francisco and Silicon Valley chapters of the Financial Planning Association and attends NAPFA NorCal study group meetings.
Prior to joining Johnson Lyman, Gary worked in the Silicon Valley for many years as an Executive Assistant in a variety of areas such as corporate venture capital, Internet, semiconductor, executive search and wealth management. Before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Gary was at a regional investment broker/dealer in Southern California for several years and held NASD (now FINRA) Series 7 and 63 licenses.
Gary earned a B.A. in Economics from U.C. Santa Cruz. In 2010 he completed the Executive Certificate in Financial Planning program at San Francisco State University and was sponsored by the federal Workforce Investment Act program administered through the County of San Mateo’s PeninsulaWorks.
Gary is on the Board of Can Do Coalition, a 501(c)(3) charity which promotes awareness of the critical nature of a diverse donor registry for people with blood cancers. Can Do Coalition also partners with the Mattel Children’s Foundation in supporting the City of Hope’s efforts to provide affordable health care to families dealing with life threatening illnesses.
When not helping Johnson Lyman’s staff and clients, Gary enjoys spending time with friends and family, dining out, seeing movies and attending live music events such as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
